Blues Down Take Royals
The Capilano Blues will play for PACWEST gold
Capilano Blues 54
Douglas Royals 39
The Blues will play for PACWEST gold on their home floor after beating the Royals on Friday afternoon.
Neither team shot the ball well offensively. The Blues shot 26% from the field and 24% from downtown while the Royals struggled shooting 24% from the field and were 2-24 from the three-point arch. Credit the defences and in particular the Blues zone that the Royals didn’t have an answer for.
For the Blues Kate Mallette was named the Player of the Game with 16 points and 12 rebounds while Sherrie Errico finished with 12 points. One of the unsung heroes for the Blues was the play Martha Melaku who played 15 minutes and had five rebounds, three of which on the offensive side.
The Royals meanwhile could not find their rhythm with just two players hitting the double-digit mark. Both Jessica Castillo and Sydney Fraess ended with 10 points each.
On Championship Saturday the Blues will play for gold at 5:30pm against the VIU Mariners or Camosun Chargers while the Royals will fight for bronze.
Player of the Game:
Capilano – Kate Mallette
Douglas – Sydney Fraess
