The Mariners took the first quarter to shake off the rust in their semi-final with the Chargers but finished shooting 34% from the field and were solid defensively on route to a victory. With the win the Mariners will play for PACWEST gold tomorrow.
On the offensive side the Mariners were led by Amber Lease and her team high 15 points and Shayce Johnston was tough inside with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Every player on the Mariners roster got on the scoresheet and added valuable minutes in a pressure situation.
The Chargers didn’t have much luck hitting shots as they finished shooting 26% from the field. They were ice cold in the fourth quarter taking over four minutes before getting a basket. Chloe Scaber dropped 15 points to lead her team while Jasmine de Vries and Sierra Reisig each scored 10 points in the loss.
Tomorrow the Mariners will face the Capilano Blues for PACWEST gold. Both teams have qualified for the CCAA national championship as the Mariners will host the event. Meanwhile the Chargers will take on the Douglas Royals for bronze as both teams conclude their seasons.
