Royals Eliminate Coyotes
With a strong third quarter the Royals move onto the semi-finals
Douglas Royals 77
Okanagan Coyotes 54
The Royals avenged an early exit from last year’s quarterfinal with a dominating win over the Coyotes to open the PACWEST championship on Thursday afternoon using a strong third quarter.
After an even opening half in which the Royals led 39-31, they exploded in the third quarter outscoring the Coyotes 27-11 to put the game out of reach. They shot 58% from the field led by their Player of the Game Jessica Castillo and her game high 20 points including four-three pointers. Cassandra Brinn was the sparkplug dropping 13 points and causing confusion for the Coyotes defensively. Sydney Fraess finished with 11 and Malena Mokhovikova was massive off the bench with 10 points and two blocks.
For the second straight season the Coyotes season ends after a quarterfinal loss. Sapna Deo was their Player of the Game with 14 points and ran the offence as the point guard.
The Royals will now meet the #2 seeded and host Capilano Blues in the semi-final on Friday at 12:30pm. The winner of that game moves onto play for PACWEST gold.
Players of the Game:
Douglas – Jessica Castillo
