Women's Bronze Medal Preview
An Island Rivalry game when the Mariners meet the Chargers for PACWEST bronze

The women’s PACWEST bronze medal game will kick off Championship Saturday at the PACWEST basketball championships at Quest University as the #3 seeded VIU Mariners face the #4 seeded Camosun Chargers at 12:30pm.
In yesterday’s semi-final the Mariners were held to 27% shooting by the Douglas College Royals and fell 56-43. Sienna Pollard led the offence with 14 points and eight rebounds and has compiled 25 points during the tournament. Emily Clarke leads the Mariners overall with 29 points scored.
The Chargers ran into a the buzz saw that is the Capilano Blues in last night’s semi-final, falling 76-37 and shot 18.2%. Kathryn Candell finished with nine points and now has 36 in the championship.
During the regular season the Mariners won two of the three meetings, but each game was extremely close with the margin of victory just seven points. The Mariners shot 29% and Pollard led the way with 13.6 a game in the series with the Chargers countering shooting 26% led by Candell’s 11.6 a game.
These two schools met in the 2015 bronze medal game as well with the Mariners claiming a 57-44 victory and Pollard was named the Player of the Game. Today’s game will be Pollard’s last in the PACWEST.

Leader: Sienna Pollard: A PACWEST First Team All-Star. She finished third in PACWEST scoring averaging 15.5 points a game and shot 31.8% from the field. She also finished second in PACWEST rebounds averaging just over nine a game. Pollard took a team high 280 shots and started all 18 games.

Leader: Kathryn Candell: A PACWEST First Team All-Star. She once again led the Chargers offensively averaging 14.4 points a game and shot 32% from the field on 274 shots. She hit 49-three pointers this season and showed quick hands defensively collecting 45 steals.
