Falcons Face Blues In Semi-Final

The first of two men’s semi-finals opens at 3:00pm today when the #2 seeded Langara Falcons meet the #3 seeded Capilano Blues.

The Falcons earned a first round bye after a 14-4 regular season and the top offence in the PACWEST scoring 88.5 points a game. They have the weapons that can beat teams in many different ways.  They love to run led by PACWEST First Team All-Star Ravi Basra.  He leads the PACWEST with over seven assists a game.

They will match up with the Capilano Blues who held off the Camosun Chargers in yesterday’s quarterfinal 76-69.  The Blues used a 30 point second quarter and were led by player of the game Hassan Phills who had 23 points, but energized the defensive side as well forcing 24 turnovers.

Over the course of the regular season these two schools met three times with the Falcons winning twice, but all three games were very close with a point differential of just eight points.  This will be an up tempo game as both teams have the athletes that like to run.  They shot 42% against each other with multiple players averaging double-digits.  Drake Downer led the Falcons with 19.3 points a game and the Blues were led by Greet Gill and his 18.3 a game.

The winner moves onto tomorrow’s gold medal game and the loser will play for bronze.

Leader: Hassan Phills: He has really stepped up as of late, averaging 10 points a game and shooting  5.6% from the field.    He also has the ability to dish the ball collecting 34 assists in the regular season.
