Semi-final 2: #1 VIU Mariners vs. #4 Quest Kermodes
Top-seeded Mariners punch ticket to gold medal match with victory over Kermodes

In the second women’s semi-final of the 2016 PACWEST Basketball Provincial Championships the top-seeded VIU Mariners took on the #4 Quest Kermodes to determine who would meet the Capilano Blues in the gold match tomorrow night.
At the end of the first-half the Mariners held the 28-23 lead over the Kermodes. PACWEST player of the year, Sienna Pollard led the way for the Mariners in the first half with 9 points and 5 rebounds. Miriam Baumann made her presence known and was well on her way to a double-double with 7 points and 8 rebounds for Quest.
After the break, the game remained close as both teams slowed the pace and used the majority of the shot clock on each possession. The Mariners maintained their lead at the end of third quarter, 37-32. Quest came out early in the fourth and took a 40-39 lead, but after a huge corner three by VIU’s Jamie MacFarlane the Mariners gained momentum and cruised to a 55-42 victory.
Player of the game Lanae Adams led the way for the Mariners with 9 points, 14 rebounds and 5 steals on the night. Quest was led by Baumann who contributed 10 points and 12 rebounds in the loss.
The #1 VIU Mariners will meet the #3 Capilano Blues in the gold medal match tomorrow night at 5:30 p.m. and the Kermodes will face the Douglas College Royals in the bronze medal match tomorrow at 12:30 p.m.
