Royals Crowned National Champs
For the second straight year the Douglas Royals are national champs
The Douglas Royals women curlers won back to back national gold medals at the CCAA Curling Canada Championship tournament on Sunday in Manitoba.
They earned their second straight title after a 10-1 victory over the Humber Hawks. The Royals jumped out to an early 7-1 lead at the halfway point of the final. A steal of three more in the sixth was enough for the Royals to retain the national crown.
In the semi-final, that was played eariler on Sunday the Royals featured a tight contest with the Red Deer Queens, with only one end resulting in more than a single point. The Royals managed to steal a few points which proved to be the difference in their 7-4 win punching their ticket to the gold medal match.
Following the tournament three Royals were named First Team All-Stars:
