Basketball's MVPs
Kemper and Gay named Athletes of the Week
The PACWEST is proud to announce the season’s final Athletes of the Week following the basketball championship tournament.
Female Basketball Athlete of the Week
Jordan Kemper – Okanagan Coyotes
For the first time in program history the Okanagan Coyotes captured PACWEST gold and Jordan Kemper was a major reason why. She was outstanding on both sides of the ball, but it was her offence that was a key cog as the Coyotes won three games in three days on route to the championship banner. Kemper averaged 19 points and nine rebounds during the tournament and connected on eight-three pointers including five in the gold medal game. She also averaged over 30 minutes each game, logging a ton of minutes for the Coyotes. She and the Coyotes will now play for a national medal at the end of March hosted by VIU.
Male Basketball Athlete of the Week
Cameron Gay – VIU Mariners
In his final PACWEST championship tournament, Cameron Gay helped the VIU Mariners orchestrate a gold medal victory on Saturday night. The veteran played all but three minutes over the course of their two wins at the championship tournament and averaged 20 points, aided by five-three pointers in the Mariners semi-final victory over the Langara Falcons. He not only played well offensively, but on the defensive side he was solid shutting down the opposition’s offensive weapons. He and the Mariners are off to Humber College in Toronto for the CCAA national championship.
