The visitors spoil the Friday night party

Friday night the Mariners collected a four-set win over the hometown Royals for their 16th win of the season. 

They opened the match with 25-18 win setting the tone early.  However, the Royals battled back in the second set and evened the match with an exciting 27-25 victory.  This is the first set any team has taken off the Mariners since January 11th.

The momentum didn’t last long as the Mariners came right back to swipe the next two sets and the match 25-21 and 25-16.

With the victory the Mariners build upon their first-place lead and now move 10 points in front of second place.  The loss, coupled with a CBC Bearcats victory, drops the Royals to fifth place and out of playoff contention heading into Saturday’s rematch.

This was a heck of a match between the Bearcats and Blues as the Bearcats fight for their playoff lives.

The hometown Blues came out with good pace and won the first set 25-20 before the Bearcats turned it on.  In the second set they evened the match with a 25-17 victory then followed that up with a third set win of 25-21 to take control of the match.

The Blues had no intention of going quietly as they try and lock down the second seed in the standings.  They forced a fifth and decisive set with a 25-22 win in the fourth looking to salvage their six-match winning streak.

In the fifth the points went back and forth with solid play on both sides of the net.  The Bearcats found an extra gear late in the set and scored a very important and impressive 15-13 victory for their second win in a row.  Believe it or not, that was the third straight match the Bearcats have gone the distance.

The win, coupled with a Royals loss, allows the Bearcats to leap into the final playoff spot with three-matches to go in the regular season.

Saturday afternoon at 5:00pm, these two schools will meet again for the final time in the regular season.  WATCH HERE
