Female Volleyball Athlete of the Week
Amanda Matsui – UFV Cascades
Amanda Matsui had an outstanding weekend on behalf of the UFV women’s volleyball team, leading the Cascades to a weekend split against the Camosun Chargers in a clash of nationally ranked teams. The sophomore left side from Port Coquitlam was a dominant force on Friday, racking up 20 kills on 36 per cent efficiency along with 15 digs, but the Chargers were able to rally for a five-set win. On Saturday, the Cascades gained a measure of revenge in emphatic fashion, winning in three straight sets. Matsui posted a team-high nine kills and 11 digs as the CCAA No. 8-ranked Cascades improved to 9-5 in PACWEST play.
Male Athlete of the Week
Isaac Bevis – VIU Mariners
Isaac Bevis, the Mariners’ second year libero had an outstanding weekend against the Columbia Bible College Bearcats. He combined for 39 total digs, eight assists and passed an excellent 2.38 over the weekend. In Friday night’s five set match he provided the Mariners with an incredible 27 digs, four assists and passed 2.12. Then on Saturday, Bevis continued his strong play with 12 digs, four assists and passed a phenomenal 2.64 which allowed the Mariners offence to find its grove in the three-set victory.
