Royals Leave Cranbrook with a Weekend Split
Fresh off last night's loss to the host Avs, the Douglas Royals were determined to earn two valuable points in the very tight PACWEST standings. Both teams came out strong in the 1st set fighting for every point but it would be the Royals that would close out the set with a 25-23 win.
Set 2 was just as competitive and the Royals prevailed taking it 25-20 and a 2-0 match lead. The Avs made it a contest as they stormed back to win the 3rd 25-20 and force a 4th set. However, the Royals were not to be denied of their victory. The visiting Royals closed out the match with a 25-22 win to earn them 2 valuable PACWEST points.
"It was good (to get back in the win column), everyone in this league knows how hard the Cranbrook trip is and COTR is always on the top of their game (at home). We have had some time off and some roster changes so it took us a night to get our rhythm back." commented Douglas head coach Ianonne. "Darby Dunn come out Saturday with 22 kills and 3 aces in 4 sets and Lynnea Car our libero contributed 14 digs and stellar passing. Jess funk our setter delivered a great game night two as well."
The Royals now make the long trip home having earned a weekend split. The Royals now play host to Camosun next weekend while Avs sit idle.
