COTR defeat Camosun is Rollercoaster Match
The COTR Avalanche played host this weekend to the visiting Camosun Chargers who currently sit in 2nd place in the PACWEST Standings. The Avs who hold the 6th and final playoff spot were looking to climb the standings this weekend. After losing both matches last week to the Cascades, the Avs this weekend had their hands full but were ready for the challenge.
On Friday night, it was a 5 set back and forth match as both teams alternated set wins. The Avs took advantage of a tired Camosun team as they took the 1st set 25-16. The Chargers responded with a 25-16 set win of their own. COTR countered with another 25-16 win to take the 3rd. Not to be outdone, Camosun responed again with a 25-23 4th set win to tie it up. This set up a 5th set showdown and the hometown Avs were not to be denied as they took the set 15-6 to close out the match 3-2.
"The match was a roller-coaster ride of emotions and skill level. We played very well in 3 of the five sets with Camosun playing well in the other two." commented Avs coach Swanson. "Our inconsistencies will be something we will have to continue to work on. I was proud of the ladies for the strong finishing set getting ahead early and continuing the pressure through to the final point."
Both teams return to the court Saturday at 1 pm.
