VIU defeat Douglas 3-1
The VIU Mariners entered the weekend with a six point lead in the PACWEST standings. With only three weekends left before the Provincial Championships, the Mariners were gearing up for the stretch run of the season.
The Douglas Royals provided the opposition Friday night. The last time these two teams met was back in November when the Mariners travelled to New West and swept the Royals that weekend. This weekend, Douglas College was hoping for better results.
VIU started off slow Friday night and the Royals took full advantage as they grabbed the first set 25-21. VIU responded by taking the next three sets 25-19, 25-18, 25-12.
"On a weekend where the VIU women's volleyball team exhibited a complete team performance, one athlete stood above the rest. Fifth year captain Tylar Turnball was a force to be reckoned with." commented VIU head coach Shane Hyde. "Offensively she led our team on Friday with 14 kills, 4 blocks and 1 ace in a four set victory over the Douglas Royals."
Both teams are back in action tomorrow afternoon.
