Chargers Earn Weekend Split with the Royals
Saturday saw the rematch between the Royals and Chargers in an afternoon affair. With a 3-1 loss the night before to the Royals, The Camosun Chargers were eager to get back on the court.
In a very closely contested match, the Chargers would claim victory as they won in three hard fought sets, 28-26, 25-23, 25-23.
"If the Friday night match provided opportunity for us to focus on our side and a new rotation, Saturday was largely about making adjustments to address Douglas' efforts from the previous night." commented Camosun's head coach Chris Dahl. "I was impressed with our ability to make adjustments and execute a game plan. Day two wins are a big deal in our league and even more so against a quality opponent."
"Camosun came rested and strong at us and after an emotional Friday night Camosun was the better team." said Douglas' head coach Ianonne. "They played well and deserved the win. All the sets were very tight and we had to compete the entire game."
The Royals were led by Darby Dunn, Julian Penner and Lynnea Carr.
Camosun's top performers were Michelle Zygmunt and Katie Fetting.
"Michelle Zygmunt continues to provide consistent offense for us. She played through illness, but managed her game well over the span of two days." continued Dahl. "This past weekend also marked the return of Lainey Jantzi to her natural position in the middle. Lainey put forth 6 points on Friday but doubled that on Saturday. In addition to the points, Lainey does so many little things well on the court that can easily go unnoticed, but are vital to our success."
Both teams return to action next weekend with the Royals on the road to Nanaimo where they play the VIU Mariners while the Chargers host the Capilano Blues.
