The Camosun Chargers complete the weekend sweep over the visiting CBC Bearcats. Fresh off a 3-1 win last night over the same Bearcats, the host Chargers kept their foot on the pedal this afternoon and finished the sweep with a 3-0 victory.
“Saturday’s match followed a similar format as our Friday encounter and once again CBC found their form in the third set." said Camosun head coach Dahl. "I feel the difference for us today was the play of our libero. Mychaela got stronger over the course of the weekend and really settled into the match. She made a lot of great touches on the ball from service reception and defensively with digs that allowed our transition game to end in a swing. She also bested her previous night’s work by putting forth a 71% perfect pass rating."
"You should have opportunities to win matches when key positional players adjust to the game over a weekend. CBC made some adjustments over night and I felt we did a good job of addressing them. Often coaches like the response following a loss, but I liked our response after Friday’s win.”
The Chargers came out strong in the first two sets with scores of 25-15, 25-16. The third set proved to be a bit more challenging as the Cats put up a fight. In a third set battle, the hometown Chargers were able to secure the victory with a 29-27 set win.
“We returned to our home court at the Pacific Institute for Sport Excellence where we held an 18-2 record over the past two seasons of PACWEST league play. Perhaps PISE deserves a little spotlight for the home court advantage it brings as clearly we’ve done well in our home facility.”
Notable mention goes to Katie Fetting who "has filled in at the setter position for us these past two weeks and although we look forward to the return of Jenna Poole to our roster, Katie has responded very well to training this past week. Unfortunately she filled in on short notice the week prior, but after one week her touch on the ball and feel for the game is coming along nicely. Her all around skill set is unlike any athlete we’ve worked with in the league."
The Chargers are back on the road next weekend to face the Douglas Royals January 15 and 16, while the Bearcat sit idle.
