Chargers Back in the Win Column
The Camosun Chargers hosted their first home match in 2016 on Friday night as they waited for the CBC Bearcats to come to town. The Chargers, fresh off a pair of road losses last week to the UFV Cascades were more than ready to face the visiting Cats this weekend.
“We’ve started the new year and second half of the PACWEST season with a few roster changes, injuries and illness" said head coach Dahl. "Unless you have a bye in the first weekend in January, the volume of training coming out of the December break is always lacking so when you combine that with a shortage of bodies and athletes adjusting to new positions you’re likely to get mixed results."
"Our first weekend presented the greatest hurdle as the changes were last minute and we had to learn on the fly. UFV played us well and continue to do so as evidenced by their recent victory over VIU, but those experiences helped us greatly in the week that followed and better prepared us for CBC.”
The Chargers came out strong taking the first two sets 25-15, 25-12. the third set was a much closer affair as the Cats had some push back taking the set 27-25. Camosun stepped it up in the fourth set taking it 25-13 to close out the match 3-1.
“We have a lot of respect for CBC as there are many parts of their game that present significant threats and make for a difficult match up for us, but we also love the challenge." continued Dahl "Our athletes executed a simple game plan very well at the net and from the service line. Any shortcomings on the defensive side of the ball were instigated by some good swings and shot selection by our opposition. They happen in a game and are experiences the provide us with the opportunity to adjust and improve.”
"The scores in the sets we won show a large spread, but the third set stands out to me… not for the loss, but for the energy and effort put forth by CBC. They aren’t a team to be counted out at any time."
Both team are back in action tomorrow afternoon at 1 pm.
