Avs Defeat Blues in a 5 Set Battle
The Avs women's volleyball team started off the new year with a much needed win and the travelling Capilano Blues provided the hosts with their first opposition on the new year. After a long road trip to Cranbrook, the Blues were eager to get on the court but in a five set battle, the host Avs would end up the victors.
"It was great to be able to get the team back together again after the Christmas holidays. Everyone was very focussed and determined to work hard in practice and continue challenging themselves to improve not only individually but as a team as well." said Avs head coach John Swanson.
"The victory this past Friday was a testament to our players continuing to get volleyball touches in their home towns as well as remaining diligent in their workout regimen during the holiday break."
"Kelsey Thompson continues to play tremendous volleyball in all aspects of the game. She is our captain and fifth year veteran so her leadership and skill set all season has been a definite positive for our team." continued Swanson "Friday was no exception as she played extremely fundamentally sound volleyball from the opening whistle to the final point of the match. We unfortunately had an injury to one of our starting power hitters and her replacement Adriel Goodson came off the bench and played incredibly well. She recorded 8 digs, 15 kills and 4 blocks in the match.
The Avs and Blues return to action Saturday afteroon at 1 pm.
