Blues down the Chargers in Four
After spending the last two weekends in the comforts of PISE, the Chargers hit the road Friday night to take on the fourth place Capilano Blues. The last time these two squads faced each other was last season where they split the season series, each team winning in the other's barn.
The Blues having sat idle last weekend had some rust to brush off and the layoff showed as they lost the 1st set 25-16 to the visiting Chargers. Unable to maintain their momentum, the Chargers lost the 2nd set 25-16. Sets 3 and 4 also went the Blues way as they finished off the Chargers 25-21, 25-13.
"We deserved to win the first set. Our athletes clearly prepared themselves well and came out of the gates ready to go. That was new for us and definitely a positive." commented Chargers head coach Dahl.
"We lost our fight as the night went along. Capilano is not a team you can afford to do that against and as the night progressed they simply took over. We have an opportunity to respond tomorrow and I appreciate that our athletes are great at refocusing their thoughts and moving forward."
Camosun's Katie Fetting finished the night with 14 kills, 1 ace, 10 digs while Mitchell Zygmunt had 12 kills and 2 aces. Mychaela Roelants had 13 digs and a 44% perfect pass rating.
"We've managed to win a lot of matches to this stage of the season and although we're learning and improving... The rate of improvement can be increased." continued Dahl, "Perhaps the learning will be amplified by this loss. It shouldn't necessarily be that way, but we'll take it. Learning and development are always welcome."
The Chargers and Blues return to the Sportsplex tomorrow at 1 pm.
