Mariners Earn Seventh Straight Win
The Mariners entered the weekend on a six match winning streak. Sporting a 6-2 record, VIU travelled to New Westminster to take on the 5-3 Royals in a pair of matches. On Friday, the Royals and Mariners battled all night in four very close sets.
The visiting Mariners took the 1st set 25-21 but the Royals fought back in the 2nd with a 25-22 win of their own. VIU stepped it up in the next two sets taking the match with the final two sets 25-17, 25-21.
The Mariners were lead by Tylar Turnbull (11 kills, 4 blocks, 2 aces, 1 dig), Megan Rosenlund (9 kills, 3 blocks, 2 kills, 10 digs) and Mikayla Wagner (10 kills, 1 block, 2 aces, 6 digs) in the win. The Royals had contributions from Juliana Penner (15 kills, block, 7 digs) and Darby Dunn (7 kills, 2 blocks, 3 aces, 6 digs).
Both teams return tomorrow for an afternoon match.
