Blues Fall in Penalty Kicks
The Capilano Blues season comes to an end in the CCAA bronze medal semi-final
For the second straight day the PACWEST champion Capilano Blues were forced into a penalty kick session to determine the fate of their season. Despite scoring six times in penalty kicks, the Blues fall 7-6 to the SAIT Trojans and have their season end in the CCAA bronze medal semi-final.
During regulation the Blues dominated the first half on the scoreboard and with possession of the ball. Captain Adrianna Babinski opened the scoring in the 27th minute on a penalty kick oddly enough. Catrina Olstrom was tackled in the box setting up the freebee for Babinski.
Just before halftime on a free kick, Julia Peyton sent the ball the length of the field getting it past every member of the Trojans before Olstrom picked up the bouncing ball, made a nifty move around the keeper and knocked it home with the left foot. The goal came in the 43rd minute giving the Blues a 2-0 advantage at the half.
The tide shifted in the second half and the Trojans went on the attack scoring in the 57th and 66th minute to tie the game and ultimately force penalty kicks.
Friday was the second straight game for the Blues determined by the PK, both times ending in a loss. Lauren Gray was named the Blues’ Player of the Game as they leave the CCAA nationals without a medal.
Great season Blues!
