The defending champion Royals made their first trip to the Island and played in a wild five-goal game on Saturday afternoon against the Mariners coming out on top.
The Mariners opened the scoring as Maddy Dawson found the back of the net in the 12th minute.
The lead lasted about 14 minutes and then Taylor Wettig scored for the Royals in the 26th minute, her first of the season. Then just a minute later Sofia Flores-Aguilera extended the Royals lead with her first of the campaign.
Following halftime the Mariners came out strong looking for the equalizer and they got it when Malorie Hanson scored in the 50th minute.
However the lead was short lived as Royals’ veteran Mikayla Hamilton scored her third of the season in as many games in the 53rd minute. The goal turned out to be the game winner.
Goalie Alexa Gazzola picked up the win making six saves while Melanie Osborne suffered the loss also making six saves.

What a difference a day makes. On Saturday these two teams combined for five goals and 17 shots. But on Sunday they combined for just one goal and 12 shots as the Mariners claimed victory, their first of the season.
The lone goal was scored by Maddy Dawson, her second in as many days for the Mariners, scoring in the 48th minute.
Keeper Melanie Osborne collected the shutout stopping all seven shots she faced.
Rookie Halle Bottrell made her first PACWEST start for the Royals allowing the lone goal. She made four saves in her debut.
The Royals (2-1-1) sit atop the PACWEST standings with seven points, two better than the Mariners (1-1-2) who have five.

After Saturday’s postponement the Falcons and Blues renewed acquaintances on Sunday afternoon with the Falcons earning their first win the new season.
Giulia Repole opened the scoring in the 12th minute getting the ball past goalie Darian Roussy. That goal would turn out to be the game winner.
In the 22nd minute Nicole Bell gave the Falcons a little extra breathing room scoring her first of the season. In the 83rd minute Repole added her second of the game securing the victory.
Keeper Sierra Grieco earned her first shutout of the season making three saves.
