SATURDAY
Langara Falcons 2
VIU Mariners 1
The Falcons used two first half goals to record the victory on the Island. Rhitti Lakhanpal scored in the ninth minute to open the scoring before Nicole Bell found the back of the net in the 39th minute.
The Mariners sent seven shots towards the net in the first half but Sierra Grieco stopped every one. It wasn’t until the 47th minute with Chloe Gummer scored cutting the lead in half that they solved Grieco.
The Falcons keeper then slammed the door making seven more saves to secure the victory.
Douglas Royals 3
Quest Kermodes 1
Both defences played extremely well in the first half. The Kermodes only could muster one shot on net, while the Royals sent six shots towards Rikki Logan who made all six saves.
It wasn’t until the 44th minute that Mikayla Hamilton was able to give the Royals a lead off a penalty kick.
Then coming out of the break in the 48th minute Michelle Wessa gave the Royals a two goal advantage. But just a minute later the Kermodes cut the lead in half off the boot of Sachi Swift.
The Royals added one more in the 90th minute when Sam Kell scored her seventh of the season putting the final nail in the Kermodes coffin.
SUNDAY
Douglas Royals 2
VIU Mariners 2
It was a back and forth game between these two rivals on Sunday. The Mariners opened the scoring in the 19th minute when Karen Battie found the back of the net.
It stayed that way until the 55th minute when the Royals finally tied it up when Michelle Wessa got the equalizer scoring her second in as many days. Just four minutes later Sam Kell tallied her eighth of the season and gave the Royals the lead.
The Mariners however would not quit. In the 86th minute Chloe Gummer tied it up with her second goal in as many days.
Capilano Blues 1
Langara Falcons 0
It was a tight defensive game on Sunday that saw the Blues take sole possession of second place with the shutout victory.
Neither team would blink as the keepers Sierra Grieco and Brittney Roussy were a factor.
However in the 81st minute Cassidy Ludlow snuck in and blasted the ball past Grieco for the eventual game winner.
