A number of exciting games on Sunday in the PACWEST
WOMEN
Langara Falcons 1 – BOX SCORE
Quest Kermodes 1
Both the Falcons and Kermodes took sometime during the first half to understand how the other was playing and neither team found the back of the net.
The second half however was different. The Falcons opened the scoring in the 50th minute when Ana Lukic scored and got the ball past Rikki Logan.
The Falcons lead lasted about 20 minutes before the Kermodes answered in the 70th minute off the foot of Rayna Smith-Marshall, her second in as many days.
Both goalies were busy on Sunday. Logan stopped seven of eight shots while Falcons’ netminder Sydney Bell stopped four of five.
This coming weekend the Falcons (0-0-3) will look for their first win when they host the VIU Mariners (1-1-2) on Saturday afternoon. The Kermodes (0-1-2) on the other hand will welcome the Douglas Royals (1-1-1) on Saturday.
Capilano Blues 0 – BOX SCORE
VIU Mariners 0
A pair of shutouts, but each recorded in different ways on Sunday afternoon as the Blues nor Mariners could solve the others goaltender.
The Blues offence had their chances but couldn’t capitalize directing seven shots on net, but Mariners goalie Alex DeMille was equal to the test stopping each one.
At the other end the Blues defence didn’t allow the Mariners to generate much of anything. Just one shot got through and was saved by Brittney Roussy.
Next weekend the Mariners (1-1-2) visit the Langara Falcons (0-0-3) on Saturday, then Douglas (1-1-1) on Sunday. The Blues (1-0-2) have Saturday off before visiting the Falcons on Sunday.
MEN
Capilano Blues 2 – BOX SCORE
VIU Mariners 0
After suffering an upset loss on Saturday the defending champion Blues played much better and handed the Mariners their first loss of the campaign.
The first half of the game didn’t produce much as neither team wanted to make a mistake. As a matter of fact, there were only three shots in the first frame, all by the Blues. Then in the 69th minute the Blues finally struck when Keith Jackson scored his fourth of the season. The goal would turn out to be the game winner.
In the 87th minute the Blues added some insurance as Andres Romo pounded a shot past netminder David Turksta. In just three shots at the net, Turksta saved only one.
Blues’ goalie Hudson Nelles earns his first shutout of the year, stopping all four shots.
The Blues (2-1-0) will have next Saturday off, but will visit the Langara Falcons (0-3-0) on Sunday. The Mariners (3-1-0) will face the Falcons on Saturday, then Douglas (1-1-1) on Sunday.
Quest Kermodes 2 - BOX SCORE
Langara Falcons 0
After an uneventful first half, the Kermodes played much better and cranked up their game in the second half scoring a pair of goals. Ahmed Kamal found some openings in the second half scoring in the 65th and 78th minute.
The Kermodes peppered the Falcons goalie Alex Kalajdzic who saw nine shots and saved seven of them.
Speaking of goalies Sam MacDonald collected his first shutout of the young season with three saves.
The Falcons road woes continue, getting only three shots on net. Next week the Falcons (0-3-0) have no easy task as they welcome the Douglas Royals to town (1-1-1) and all their weapons.
