The Royals Host The Blues
For the second time this season the Blues and Royals square off
Saturday afternoon will be the second of three meetings between the Douglas Royals (3-2-1) and the Capilano Blues (1-0-3) this season.
On September 16th the Blues scored a pair of first half goals, then hung on for a 2-1 victory on their home turf. Dominika Paige and Adrianna Babinski tallied for the Blues while Sam Kell opened the scoring for the Royals.
Both keepers were equal to the test facing offensive pressure from both teams. The Blues’ Nikki Gerbrandt stopped five of six shots earning the victory and Alexa Gazzola was just as solid for the Royals stopping four of six shots. Each keeper pitched a shutout in the second half.
The first place Royals played a rare Wednesday night game to make up for a “smoked out” game in Week 1. The Royals fell 1-0 despite collecting an incredible 13 shots on net against the Langara Falcons but couldn’t solve Sydney Bell.
The Blues on the other side of the field will be a bit more rested. They haven’t played since Sunday in a 2-2 draw also against the Falcons.
Saturday’s match up features two of the most dangerous offensive threats in the PACWEST. The Royals' Sam Kell has scored five goals in five game to lead all scorers while the Blues are led by Babinski who has tallied three goals in four games.
“We are looking for a successful weekend hoping to knock off the first place Royals with a solid performance,” says Blues head coach Dennis Kindel. “We hope to play an aggressive game and mark our stamp that we are contenders for the league title this season.”
Kick off on Saturday at Towne Centre in Coquitlam is set for 1:00pm.
