Answering The "Bell"
The Langara Falcons get their first win behind an outstanding performance from Sydney Bell
Langara Falcons 1
Douglas Royals 0
With their first win of the season the Falcons catapulted from fourth place to second place in the PACWEST women’s standings after a 1-0 shutout of the Douglas Royals on Wednesday.
Rookie Rhitti Lakhanpal scored her first PACWEST goal in the 42nd minute just shy of halftime that proved to be the game winner.
That said without a sparkling performance from Falcons goalie Sydney Bell the outcome would have been very different. Bell records her first win after stopping all 13 shots directed her way.
Meanwhile Royals netminder Nicole Scott stopped three of the four shots she faced.
The Falcons victory was the first for new head coach Rae Pelat. It’s been a long time coming following five consecutive ties to open the season.
This game was originally scheduled for Week 1, however with the thick smoke in the Vancouver area due to the numerous forest fires it was postponed until Wednesday night.
Both teams will be back in action this weekend. The Falcons (1-0-5) will host Quest (0-2-2) on Sunday while the Royals (3-2-1) will welcome the Capilano Blues (1-0-3) on Saturday.
