Elissa Vreugdenhil of the CBC Bearcats named the Female Athlete of the Year Across All-Sports
The PACWEST is pleased to announce Elissa Vreugdenhil of the CBC Bearcats has been named the Female Athlete of the Year Across All-Sports following an impressive women’s basketball season.
The Bearcats were the biggest surprise of the PACWEST season as Vreugdenhil led them to a third-place finish, their highest in school history. As a matter of fact, the Bearcats had not won a game since 2018 until Vreugdenhil helped them to a victory in their first contest of the year as she put the Conference on notice immediately finishing with a double-double.
Over the course of the season the Sumas, Washington native quietly put together one of the best campaigns in Bearcat school history. She finished averaging over 16 points and 14 rebounds a game, shooting 46% from the field and 68% from the free-throw line. On the defensive end she accumulated 28 blocked shots and had 32 steals. She was the offensive presence that the Bearcats have been missing in recent memory as she helped them back to the postseason.
In their first playoff game since 2018 she led her club with 21 points and 13 rebounds despite the opposition defence trying to slow her down. They would ultimately lose their quarterfinal in overtime bringing her season to an end.
Following the regular season, she was recognized for her accomplishments and was named a First Team All-Star and the PACWEST Women’s Player of the Year.
She became the first Bearcat in any sport to be named the PACWEST Athlete of the Year Across All-Sports.
She is eligible to return next year.
Congratulations Elissa Vreugdenhil!
