The PACWEST champion Royals are on the bronze medal side of the bracket after fallling 67-54 to the Geants de Saint-Jean, the RSEQ wildcard on Wednesday. They started slow falling behind 26-12 in the first quarter and couldn’t dig themselves out of that hole.
They shot 35% from the field led by Mackenzie Dalphond the only player in double figures with 10 points. Outside of the first quarter their defence was solid holding the Geants to 28% shooting.
On Thursday the Royals meet the ACAC wildcard berth The King’s University Eagles from Edmonton. They were beat by the Ontarion champion Lambton Lions 76-67 in their opener shooting 33%. The Royals will need to guard Anelia Ayotte who finished the game with 26 points and 14 rebounds and Alyssa Yorke who had 11 and 15. The Eagles finished 13-7 during the regular season and averaged over 72 points a game, so their offence is dynamic.
The Royals need to win to keep their national medal hopes alive. The winner advances to the bronze medal semi-final with the loser playing in the Placement Game.
