Get To Know: Langara Falcons
A new coach, new roster and a new energy at Langara
After an injury plagued season last year the Langara Falcons are hoping to stay healthy this season and build upon their quarterfinal appearance from a year ago.
They have made a change at the top as Cameron MacGillivary becomes the new head coach after spending the last 13 years in both head and assistant coaching roles at various levels in the lower mainland. He joins the Falcons after being the lead assistant with the Capilano Blues so does have PACWEST experience. He will have a pair of assistants join him on the bench including Steven Xu and Chris Schneller.
Key Returners:
Rachel Labrador is back after suffering a terrible looking injury in the PACWEST playoffs last season. She was a major threat offensively last year averaging over 11 points a game and shot 33% from the field in 18 games. She has a high basketball IQ and led her team with 35 assists last year.
Nadia Singh returns for her second season to give the Falcons some stability down low. Last year as a rookie she played in 17 games, and averaged over 18 minutes. She dropped in 5.9 points each game and snagged over five boards.
Key Additions:
Guard Claire Huang enters her first PACWEST season after graduating from the Sir Winston Churchill program. She will be asked to make an impact right away and quarterback the offence.
Key Grads:
Jessica Castillo is a big graduate after bringing her veteran leadership to a relatively young team last season. She led the Falcons averaging 14.9 points a game playing in nine contests.
Janel Tantengco has also graduated after shooting 43% from the field a year ago.
When the Falcons tip off this season fans will notice several local to Vancouver talent on the roster. They will be young again but do have players back for their second PACWEST season giving them Conference experience. They open on Friday night when they host the Douglas Royals in the season opener.
