After their thrilling victory over the Capilano Blues a week and a half ago for their fourth PACWEST gold medal the Mariners make their first appearance at the national championship since the 2016 season. During that championship the Mariners finished with one victory in three games. They’ve won just one national medal; a gold in 1998 when the tournament was hosted in Ontario at Seneca College.
The Broncos finished the regular season with a 17-4 record in the South Division and upset the first place Lakeland Rustles in the semis before beating the Keyano Huskies in the Conference championship game.
In the regular season the Broncos shot 44% from the field and averaged 81 points per game. They were led by the ACAC’s leading scorer Brittney Thibeaux and her 27.2 points a game. She also shot 54% from the field and added 9.8 rebounds each contest. Guard Kyla Adams was also a major factor offensively dropping in 16.4 points a game and shot 35% from behind the arch.
The Broncos are making their second appearance on the national stage and first since 2013. That season they finished with a bronze medal after beating the Mariners in the bronze semi 72-55.
