Basketball Athletes of the Week
Sparks-Guest and Fraess have massive weekends
The PACWEST is pleased to announce the basketball Athletes of the Week following week 3 of the PACWEST season.
Female Basketball Athlete of the Week
Sydney Fraess – Douglas Royals
In two highly entertaining and extremely competitive games, freshman Sydney Fraess had a breakout weekend, leading the Douglas College Royals to two victories. In Thursday’s game versus Capilano, she lead her team with a career high 23 points, along with four rebounds and three assists. Then Friday at Okanagan College, she once again led her Royals with a team high 16 points, adding four rebounds and two assists. She came off the bench with under four minutes left in the fourth quarter and hit three-three pointers in a row, breaking open an extremely close game, and spoiling Okanagan’s inaugural season home opener.
Male Basketball Athlete of the Week
Denver Sparks-Guest – Capilano Blues
The veteran dropped an incredible 53 points in Saturday’s win over Okanagan, shooting a lights-out 20-for-29 from the floor, 10-for-10 from the free throw line, and 3-for-7 from beyond the arc. The 53 points are the second-most all-time in a PACWEST game a single-game record in Capilano men’s basketball history (complete stats go back to 1984-85). For good measure he added 12 rebounds for his third double-double of the year. In Thursday night’s game against Douglas, Sparks-Guest had 15 points, eight rebounds, and a steal.
