Veterans To Lead VIU
The Mariners return 11 players from last year's team
The VIU Mariners a season ago came within one basket from advancing to the PACWEST gold medal game, falling 58-57 to the Capilano Blues in the semi-final.
They would settle for fourth place but made excellent strides under head coach Tony Brice. As he enters his second full season on the women’s bench Brice will have a number of returning players at his disposal looking to make another push to the top of the PACWEST standings.
With 11 returning players the Mariners will be one of the favourites coming into this season. They shot 35% from the field last year and 28% from behind the arch.
“We expect to enjoy the process,” says Brice. “We will work hard, we will push to be successful, but we will also have fun doing it. That said we are a very close knit group that will support each other on our push toward a potential championship.”
