Week 10 Women's Basketball Rewind

The PACWEST basketball season played its final full weekend with five of the seven teams wrapping up the regular season. Here’s the Rewind:
Thursday
Camosun Chargers 54
VIU Mariners 50
This was a back and forth game from start to finish with defence as the Chargers played a gritty road game to victory. They shot just 21.9% from the field led by Tessa Lannon-Paakspuu and Kathryn Candell who each had 17 points.
The Mariners turned the ball over 22 times on their home floor and shot just 23.4% from the field. Sienna Pollard was outstanding with 17 points and 10 rebounds while Kaitlyn Lafontaine also dropped 17 points including hitting five-three pointers.
FRIDAY
VIU Mariners 68
CBC Bearcats 38
Another day, another monster game from Mariner Sienna Pollard in her final regular season game. The veteran scored a game high 18 points and had 16 rebounds to lead her club. Victoria Brown also had a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
The Bearcats shot just 20% from the field. Mandy Van Delden led the way 13 points and Lauren King-Nyberg had 10.
Quest Kermodes 70
Douglas College Royals 62
After five lead changes and eight ties the Kermodes outscored the Royals 18-11 in the final frame to seal the win. They shot 45% from the field led by Tessa Needham and her game high 19 points. Kyra Boulding also had a solid game with 12 points.
The Royals were held to 27% shooting and went ice cold in the second half. Ellen Fallis tallied 17 points and Amber Beasley scored 15.

CBC Bearcats 74
The Chargers wrapped up the regular season with a nail-biting win on the road shooting 39.7% from the field. Mia Roberts knocked down four-three pointers and had a game high 21 points off the bench. Isla Swanwick tallied 16 and Kathryn Candell scored 15.
The Bearcats closed out their season shooting 41% from the field. Mandy Van Delden exploded for a season high 34 points and Tolu Ojo collected 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Douglas College Royals 71
Langara Falcons 61
An exciting game with eight lead changes, before the Royals took the lead for good in the fourth quarter securing the “W.” Regardless the outcome the Royals knew they were going to finish second and receive a bye in the PACWEST Championship tournament, so everyone got into the game. Amber Beasley scored 18 while Jettie McLaughlin dropped in 17 points.
The Falcons started hot shooting 43% but then cooled in the second half and it showed on the scoreboard. Nicola Erricson was the only Falcon to reach the double-digit plateau scoring 18 points.
Next up for women’s basketball will be the PACWEST Championship tournament opening up Thursday March 2 as the Quest Kermodes will host.
