The CapU Blues women’s basketball team hosted the Camosun Chargers Friday night in search of their first PACWEST win and came away with a victory, 70-57.
After a strong second quarter by fourth-year forward Amber Kavanagh and fifth-year guard Michelle Errico, the Blues entered halftime with a 32-25 lead. At the half, Kavanagh led the way for the Blues with 14 points and 4 rebounds and for the Chargers, forward Kelly Young totaled 8 points and 5 rebounds.
The Chargers struggled with the Blues’ full-court press and turned it over 11 times on the night. Defense was instrumental in the win as third-year guard Ashley De La Cruz created havoc for the Chargers guards and recorded three steals on the night.
Errico caught fire in the second half and finished the game with 26 points and 5 assists; Kavanagh added 23 points and 6 rebounds and Karyn Nelson had a solid game with 13 points and 8 rebounds.
Head coach Ramin Sadaghiani was happy to pick up the win, “it’s early in the year, we did some good things, but we definitely have categories that we need to work on.”
