Mariners Meet Huskies in Bronze Match
The VIU Mariners will look for a CCAA bronze medal at 5pm as they face the Keyano Huskies
The VIU Mariners men’s team will play for CCAA bronze after a sweep of the Griffons de l’Outaouais from the RSEQ on Saturday morning. They will meet the ACAC champion Keyano Huskies at 5:00pm PST today.
The offensive was led by Braydon Brouwer and his 12 kills, a pair of aces and two digs. Doug Groenendijk was solid out of the middle with six kills and Adam Kapteyn added five kills and three blocks. Keal Prince tallied 28 assists and two more blocks.
The Huskies are the defending CCAA bronze medalists and are also playing in their fourth match this tournament. On Thursday they swept the Griffons setting up a semi-final match with the Fanshawe Falcons on Friday. It was a thrilling match going the distance with the Falcons eking out a 15-12 victory pushing the Huskies to the bronze medal side of the bracket.
This morning the Huskies faced the defending champion Titans de Limoilou in a bronze medal semi-final and they swept them 25-17, 25-23 and 25-19 setting them up to meet the Mariners in the bronze medal match.
Despite both being in this very tournament last year, the Mariners and Huskies have never met.
