The PACWEST men’s volleyball season opened this past weekend and already it’s proving to be an exciting season.
FRIDAY
Camosun Chargers 3
VIU Mariners 1
The Chargers opened the PACWEST season with a massive win over their Island rivals the VIU Mariners.
The visiting Mariners were led by Jeff Webb who collected 16 kills while Andre DeLacerda-Pires made 11 digs on the defensive side.
Capilano Blues 3
Douglas Royals 0
It was a start just what the Blues were hoping for, a three-set sweep over the visit Royals. Jacob Hopkins led the way with 10 kills and Justin Yee chipped in with six as did Zarley Zalusky.
The Royals on the other hand were led offensively by Justin Faester who had 10 kills.
CBC Bearcats 3
UFV Cascades 0
After getting swept on Thursday the Bearcats answered with a sweep of their own on Friday. Ian Regier collected nine kills and Ben Smith had eight.
SATURDAY
VIU Mariners 3
Camosun Chargers 1
The Mariners turned the tides on the Chargers on Saturday after losing on Friday night. Jeff Webb again led the offence with 15 kills while last season Player of the Year Braydon Brouwer had 14.
Capilano Blues 3
Douglas Royals 1
The Blues continued their hot play led by Justin Yee who had a team high 13 kills. Simon Friesen was solid with 10 digs.
The Royals saw good offensive punch, but couldn’t finish when it mattered most. Reid Marriott had a match high 16 kills and Ben Shand had 13.
