Friday night saw the Avs play their second of four matches this weekend. Coming off a win in a rare Thursday evening content, the Avs were looking for a repeat performance. The Cats however, were still looking for that elusive first win of their season and were determined to stop the Avalanche in their tracks.
"This match was a culmination of a year’s worth of work, perseverance and persistence. Definitely our most consistent match of the season, we rode the wave of some consistent play as well as a boisterous crowd in order to come out with our first victory of the year in 5 sets." commented Cats head coach Warkentin.
In a five set battle, it was an entertaining Friday night affair. The Avs earned the first set with a 25-13 score. The Cat replied with two straight set wins with scores of 25-21, 25-21. With the momentum with the Cats, the Avs battled hard to tie the match with a 25-23 set score. In the fifth and final set, and the home crown behind the Cats, the final set would go to the home team as the Cats took the match 3-2 and a final set score of 15-11.
"Ryan led the way again offensively with 19 kills and 3 aces, Ben chipped in with 12 kills 1 ace, Thomas with 9 kills 1 ace, and Curtis with 7 kills and 3 aces. Defensively, Ben contributed 11 digs and 1 block, and both Curtis and Tanner played a solid game with 6 and 2 blocks respectively." added coach Warkentin.
The Cats now get the rest of the weekend off while the journey continues for the Avs as they now visit the Envision centre on Saturday and Sunday to take on the UFV Cascades.
