Avs Defeat a Depleted Blues
The COTR men's volleyball team ended the first half of the season on a five match losing streak. Determined to take advantage of the holiday break to recharge their batteries, the Avs came out swinging as they hosted an undermanned Capilano squad.
On Friday night, the COTR Avs delivered the visiting Capilano squad, the Blues. The Avs came out strong to take the match in three straight sets, 25-16, 25-16, 25-18.
"As all teams have to deal with….injuries late in the first semester was a difficult issue for us to overcome." comment Avs head coach Swanson. "With so many strong teams in the league we were able to compete but struggled to turn those matches into wins. The timing of the Christmas break was very helpful for us to get all of our players heathy again for the second semester. I am proud of the guys not dwelling or focusing too much on past results and just remained focussed on the upcoming task at hand."
"The win was much needed and despite a different team than we faced earlier in the season at Capilano…our guys played hard and made sure to focus on playing aggressive yet disciplined volleyball."
"I was very pleased with varied strong offensive outputs from Zach Fedechko (9 kills), Patrik Toze (12 Kills), Julio Lins (10 kills) and Spencer Janzen (11 kills). Alex Cassels our setter did a tremendous job distributing the ball to many players throughout the Match on Friday."
Both teams battle again tomorrow afternoon at 3 pm.
