Mariners Beat the Cats in Three Sets
The VIU Mariners started the second half of the season where they left off in November. Riding a 3 match winning streak, VIU rolled into Abbotsford where they faced the host CBC Bearcats. In a 3 set sweep, the Mariners defeated CBC 25-14, 25-11, 25-11.
"VIU clearly was a lot smoother in their game on Friday night where we showed that we had been off for a number of weeks. Ben Smith, our addition to the team put in a solid performance." stated CBC coach Jason Warkentin. Smith ended the evening with 4 kills, 5 digs and 1 ace.
VIU coach Avender said that "it was nice to get back on the court after the Christmas break and have a quality result. We didn't have a chance to train much as a group over the holidays outside of some matches at Douglas over the break. We did not perform well at DC, so it was nice to have a hard week of training and then to put together a solid match."
Both teams return to Columbia Place tomorrow at 3 pm.
