Royals hand CBC their 10th loss of the season
The Douglas Royals entered the weekend with one win in their last four matches while the CBC Bearcats have yet to win a match this season. CBC also have yet to face the Royals in PACWEST action. Playing at the familiar confines of Columbia Place, CBC had hopes of earning that elusive first victory of the season. Douglas had other ideas as they were looking to get back on track before the holiday break.
The Royals dominated the match as they swept it 3-0 with set scores of 25-19, 25-16, 25-19. The Cats played hard but were unable to gain ground on the Royals. Nick Lightfoot had 8 kills, 1 block, 1 ace and 1 dig while Matt Santema had 9 kills, 1 block to go along with his 1 dig. Kristian Currie joined the duo with 9 kills, 1 ace and 3 digs.
Ryan Newman was the only CBC player to record double digets in offensive points as he tallied 8 kills and 3 aces to go along with his 2 digs. The Royals had three players hit double digets with offensive points.
"We showed stretches of playing to the level that our potential shows we can reach, but we are still working through gaining a steadier level of consistency." commented CBC head coach Warkentin "Each week continues to be a learning experience for our guys."
Both teams return to action tomorrow for a rematch and the last league match of the semester.
