It would take the third week of league play to finally see the COTR Avalanche play their first matches of the season. In a creative scheduling format, week three of the PACWEST volleyball season had the Avs playing 4 straight matches on the road.
The Avs rolled into North Vancouver Thursday night to play back to back matches with the Capilano Blues before heading off to New West were they were to face Douglas Royals. In tonight's action, it was a five set affair with the home town Blues taking the first two sets 25-22, 25-22. With that match seemingly out of reach, the COTR rallied back to take the 3rd set 27-25. Clearly with the momentum in the Avs favour, COTR would take the next 2 sets 25-13, 25-9 to close out the match 3-2.
The Avs had top perfomances on the night were Patrik Toze with 22 offensive points (17 kills, 2 blocks, 3 aces) and 2 digs; Julio Lins with 15 offesive points (11 kills, 2 blocks, 2 aces) and 2 digs; Zach Fedechko with 14 offensive points (12 kills, 2 blocks) and 4 digs. The Blues standout was Brendan Cairns with 20 offensive points (18 kills, 2 aces) and 10 digs.
Both team return to action at the Capilano Sportsplex tomorrow at 8 pm.
