The PACWEST champion Douglas Royals will play for national gold on Saturday afternoon when they face the Ontario champion Conestoga Condors in the CCAA men’s soccer finale.
The Royals had Friday off after beating the host St. Clair Saints on Thursday in the semi-final 1-0. This will be the first time these two schools meet in the national championship game. In the two games at this national championship the Royals have not allowed a goal and has outscored the opposition 6-0.
The Condors won the OCAA title for the first time in 44 years and now find themselves playing for a national title They got to this game after shutting out the VIU Mariners 1-0 in Wednesday’s quarter-final, then snuck by the Aigles D’Ahuntsic from Montreal 2-1. Their winning goal came on a penalty kick.
Here in 2023 the Condors have not lost a game. They finished the regular season 10-0, then went through the Ontario playoffs without a loss, and are 2-0 at nationals. Their backline is very talented, and their keeper has come up big when required.
The Royals are in back in the gold medal game for the second time in three seasons, finishing with a silver in 2021. They last won the national title in 2005. The Condors have never won a national medal.
