Mariners Avoid Lightning
The VIU Mariners are off to the bronze semi-final after a high scoring win on Friday
The VIU Mariners advanced to the bronze semi-final after a high scoring 115-91 win over Calgary’s St. Mary’s Lightning on Friday afternoon.
Both teams came out flying in the first quarter combining to score 63 points with the Mariners holding a 35-28 advantage after one. They would continue their hot shooting the rest of the way and finished at 53% from the field. The Mariners also lived behind the three-point arch attempting 30 shots and connected on half of them with Player of the Game Tori Odom hitting five and Zekun Li adding four more off the bench.
In all, Odom had game high 24 points, Akoi Yuot bounced back after a foul troubled game on Thursday to score 23 and Richard Henderson picked up his second straight double-double of 19 points and 13 rebounds.
The victory sends the Mariners to the bronze medal semi-final set for Saturday at 5pm PST against either the SAIT Trojans or George Brown Huskies.
