The Mariners are right back on the floor on Friday after suffering a heartbreaking 91-85 overtime loss on Thursday to the RSEQ champion Dawson Blues.
Yesterday the Mariners opened the CCAA nationals and came alive in the fourth quarter after trailing for most of the contest and forced overtime. Unfortunately, they couldn’t hold momentum or the Blues down in the extra session as they opened with a 14-8 run sinking the PACWEST wildcard.
The Mariners shot 36% from the field but only nine of 31 from the three-point line in the setback. Richard Henderson’s 25 points and 10 rebounds led the way with Tori Odom adding 24 points and Landon Radliff had 18.
Today the Mariners battle the Lightning who also lost their opening game on Thursday 108-93 to the Ontario champion St. Clair Saints. The Lightning are a wildcard from the ACAC, falling to the host SAIT Trojans in the Conference title game. The shot 49% in their quarterfinal loss and 45% from the three-point line. They are a dangerous team and will give the Mariners plenty to think about on the offensive side. During the regular season they finished 14-7 and upset the division leading Lethbridge Kodiaks in the semi-final.
With a win today, the Mariners would advance to Saturday’s bronze medal semi-final.
