Blues Visit Kermodes
It's the first meeting between these two teams since the PACWEST semi last season
Tonight and Saturday the Capilano Blues and Quest Kermodes will match up in the PACWEST Game of the Week on the men’s side. It’s the first meeting of the season between these two teams who will be very familiar with each other meeting three times this month.
The Blues (4-2-0) and Kermodes (2-3-1) last met in the PACWEST semi-final last season, a game the Blues won handily 5-2. The Blues then went on to win gold, while the Kermodes won bronze.
Offensively the Blues have been led by Keith Jackson who has seven goals in five games. They have been fairly balance this year in scoring with six different players finding the scoresheet.
Perhaps the most impressive part of the Blues’ games have been the backfield. They have allowed just five goals all season and keeper Hudson Nelles leads the PACWEST with a 0.83 goals against average.
They are coming off a 2-0 loss to the VIU Mariners and will be hungry to get back into the win column trialing the Mariners by seven points in the standings, but with two games in hand.
Blues head coach Paul Dailly says, “Quest will be a difficult game as Alex (Elliott) will have them well organized and ready to play. We will be looking to bounce back from a loss on the island. I am looking for my team to respond with a solid effort.”
The Kermodes have lost two straight coming off a heartbreaking 4-3 loss to Langara last weekend.
Their offence has had five different goal scorers in their six games. Ahmed Kamal leads the way with three goals while Nick Glavas and Yassin Nayel each have a pair.
On the backend keeper Sam MacDonald has seemingly been peppered this season and has been equal to the test. His goals against average checks in at 1.25 and has two shutouts. He will need to be sharp against the Blues high powered offence.
“Coach Paul has his Blues playing great offence,” says Kermodes head coach Alex Elliott. “They do a great job of constantly putting the back-line under pressure. We relish these rare opportunities to play night games under the lights at the gorgeous Kermodes field. Thus being our first meeting since last year’s semi-final, adds a touch of excitement for our team.”
Tonight is the first half of the home and home as the teams will play under the lights in Squamish on the Quest campus. The men’s Game of the Week kicks off at 8:00pm following the women’s game.
