New PACWEST Season
The new season opens today with a pair of games
Douglas Royals @ Langara Falcons – Friday November 4, 8:00pm | WATCH HERE
The Royals and Falcons renew their rivalry in the first game of season with the tip off in Vancouver. It was the Falcons that ended the Royals season last year in a quarterfinal.
The Falcons took home the PACWEST bronze a year ago and are looking to get out of the gate quickly on Friday night. They return several athletes from last year’s team including point guard Royce Sargeant and big man Jas Dhudwal. Their roster is also bolstered by the return of Moeiz Athaya who is back with the club for his fourth year of eligibility.
Meanwhile the Royals will no doubt be in the mix again with their coaching staff heading into their second season. They learned several valuable lessons last year and have retooled and are ready for Friday night. They shouldn’t have difficulties scoring the ball as Corez Johnson is back after finishing fourth in Conference scoring last year. Bhavan Dhillon is also back and hungry to push this team over the top.
VIU Mariners @ Camosun Chargers – Friday November 4, 8:00pm | WATCH HERE
Just because it’s the first game of the season doesn’t mean there isn’t anything on the line. The Island rivalry tips off and neither the Mariners nor the Chargers want to start the season behind the eight-ball.
Last year the Mariners ran the table but left the CCAA nationals without a medal. They are loaded again this year led by a pair of fifth year athletes in Tori Odom and Richard Henderson. A familiar face is also back as guard Landon Radliff and his dangerous outside shooting returns after taking last year off. He was the 2019 PACWEST championship MVP.
The Chargers have a new leader at the top with head coach Geoff Pippus entering his rookie season. He is lucky to have several returning athletes who helped them to their best school record last season. Guard Takeshi Croke is back on the roster along with Noah Helman and Jaime Palamos-Molins.
