The PACWEST champion Royals began defence of their championship title with a thrilling overtime victory over the Falcons scoring 18 points in the extra session.
The Royals shot 43% as a team and were led by Courtney Anderson’s 41 points and 10 rebounds. Tyrone Asenoguan had 19 points and 11 boards and Shane Toporowski was a perfect 8-8 from the field with 17 points off the bench.
The Falcons offence shot 49.4% from the field and 53.8% from behind the arch. Three starters scored over 20 points to lead the way; Antonio Jhuty dropped 29 points, Nishad Tarak had 27 and Grant Galbraith scored 21.
Today the Royals (1-0) will host the CBC Bearcats (0-1) and the Falcons (0-1) welcome the Capilano Blues (1-0).
Okanagan Coyotes 86

In their inaugural game the Coyotes shot 43% from the field and scored a road victory over the Chargers. They were consistent scoring 22, 22 and 24 points in each of the first three quarters.
Offensively the Coyotes were led by Curtis Wilson and his game high 26 points and 19 rebounds. Davide Ciancio came off the bench and dropped 17 points while Hunter Hughes also had a double-double of 12 points and 14 boards.
The Chargers offence struggled against the Coyotes defence shooting 29% from the field. Matthew Gray led all Chargers with 20 points.
Saturday the Coyotes (1-0) will visit the VIU Mariners (1-0) while the Chargers (0-2) have the night off.
Capilano Blues 107
CBC Bearcats 79
The Blues shot 60% from the field scoring 32 and 35 points in the second and fourth quarters respectively on route to their first win of the season.
Five Blues scored in double digits led by Denver Sparks-Guest who dropped in 17 points. CJ Campbell, Michael Kelly and Niko Mottus each had 15 points and Nathan Bromige had a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Despite the score the Bearcats shot 39% from the field. Trent Baker led the way with a game high 29 points and Gabe Mannes knocked down 18.
Saturday night the Blues (1-0) invade the Langara Falcons (0-1) and the Bearcats (0-1) will visit the Douglas Royals (1-0).
