A Silver For the Royals
The Douglas Royals finished the CCAA national championship tournament with a silver medal
Saturday night the Douglas Royals won a national silver medal and are the second best team across the country. The medal is their first CCAA medal since 2008.
In their 86-73 loss to the Seneca Sting (Toronto) on Saturday the Royals shot 40% from the field, but only 15% from the three-point arch. Reese Morris scored a team high 20 points and Kameron Johnson dropped 18 to lead the offence. In his final collegiate game the PACWEST’s All-Time leading scorer Grant Campbell recorded 10 points, collected two rebounds and three assists.
It was an outstanding season for the Royals who entered the PACWEST championship tournament as the third seed. They took down the #2 Langara Falcons and the top ranked VIU Mariners on their home floor in the championship tournament earning their first nationals berth since 2008.
This weekend they beat the ACAC champion SAIT Trojans then the defending champions and RSEQ champs Nomades de Montmorency to earn their way into the gold medal game against the Ontario champion Sting.
Following the game three Royals were named as CCAA All-Stars:
First Team: Kameron Johnson and Reese Morris
Second Team: Noah DeRappard-Yuswack
