Week 10 Men's Basketball Rewind

The PACWEST basketball season played its final full weekend with five of the seven teams wrapping up the regular season.  Here’s the Rewind:

TUESDAY

Douglas College Royals 111
CBC Bearcats 64

The Royals shot 53% from the field overall but it was the second half that was most impressive shooting 69%.  Every Royal hit the score sheet led by the 21 points from Lambert Pajayon and the 20 laid in by Malcolm Mensah.

The Bearcats were led by Jackson Strother and his 16 points.

THURSDAY

VIU Mariners 102
Camosun Chargers 76

The Mariners led from start to finish scoring 25 points in the first quarter and 29 in the fourth.  Every Mariner scored at least two points and they hit 12-three pointers.  Usama Zaid continued to have the hot hand scoring 27 points and Eric D’Andrea nailed five-three pointers and finished with 19 points.

The Chargers bench scored 41 points led by Dylan Marsden and Evan Woodson who scored 16 and 14 points respectively.

FRIDAY

VIU Mariners 95
CBC Bearcats 78

The Bearcats played the Mariners tough with six lead changes and two ties.  But in the end the Mariners were just too much shooting 46% led by Usama Zaid and his game high 33 points.  Three other Mariner players reached double-digits including 15 from Bryson Cox.

The Bearcats hung with the defending champs shooting 44% from the field led by Elijah Calhoun and his 17 points.  Tamikah Otanga chipped in with 16 off the bench.

Quest Kermodes 68

The Royals outscored the Kermodes 19-8 in the first half but allowed the Kermodes to tie it at halftime, before pulling away in the third quarter.    Reese Morris had a heck of a game with a high 24 points and 10 rebounds and Malcolm Mensah scored 17 and tallied 11 rebounds.

The hometown Kermodes saw Dallas Searles score 21 points and Noah deRappard-Yuswack tally 15, but they came up a bit short shooting 39% from the field.

SATURDAY

CBC Bearcats 99
Camosun Chargers 88

The Bearcats ended their season on a high upsetting the Chargers shooting 47% from the field and three players hit the 20 point plateau; Elijah Calhoun (22), Umbori Watson (22) and Michael Olive (20) off the bench.    Olive also hit six-three pointers, the rest of the Bearcats connected on four.

The Chargers were led by Andrew Larson and his game high 25 points on 8 of 16 shooting and he hit three-three pointers.  Mathew Hampson was also solid scoring 20 points.

Quest Kermodes 93
Capilano Blues 90

Eight lead changes and seven ties before the Kemodeds scored the three point win.  They shot 41% as Dallas Searles scored a game high 26 points and Theo VandenEkart drained 23 points and hit five-three pointers.  Both Noah deRappard-Yuswack and Daniel Canzater each collected a double-double; 16 + 18 and 16+12 respectively.

The Blues outscored the Kermodes 62-51 in the second half, but still came up short.   Four players hit the double-digits mark as Chris Loreth, Greet Bill and Mo Karimirad all scored 16 points and Wayne Untalan dropped in 13.

Langara Falcons 88

They needed overtime as the Royals outscored the Blues 13-5 in the extra frame.  In all Malcolm Mensah led the Royals with 30 points and Reese Morris scored 29 points and collected 11 rebounds

The Falcons didn’t quite have the “ball luck” they were hoping for making 23 turnovers leading to significant points.  Ravi Basra led the way with 17 points and 10 assists and Gary Minhas was solid with a team high 24 points.
