Men's Basketball Game of the Week
If you like offence, this will be fun to watch
It’s the final full weekend of PACWEST basketball and there is still plenty yet to be determined. One of the most exciting games will be two of the top offences going toe-to-toe as the Langara Falcons welcome the Capilano Blues in the season rubber match on Friday night.
The Falcons have won two straight and have one of the most potent offences in the Conference scoring 90 points a game. Drake Downer leads the way with 16.4 points a game, but they are so balanced that seven players are averaging double-digits. Point guard Ravi Basra continues to be the best distributor in the PACWEST averaging almost eight assists a game.
As good as their offence has been, the Falcons defence has allowed the fewest amount of points giving up 76 a game. They move very quickly to the ball creating nine steals and 19 turnovers each contest. Basra leads the team with 36 steals.
This will be the third and final meeting of the regular season with the Blues as each team has gone on the road and won. The Blues handed the Falcons their first loss of the season in November by a six point margin, before the Falcons got some payback at Capilano last month with an 11 point win.
Falcons’ guard Harry Brar leads all scorers in the series averaging 23 points while Greet Gill is the top Blue with 19.5 a game.
Speaking of the Blues they have cooled off significantly in the month of February and have lost three straight, all of which on the road. Their defence has given up 93 points a game during this skid. To make matters worse the Falcons are one of only two teams to score over 100 points against them this season. The Falcons scored 111 last week alone.
The silver lining for the Blues is the fact that they have played at Langara this season and have left with a win, scoring 107 points. They will try and draw off that fact on Friday night.
This has all the makings of a run and gun shootout and should be very entertaining to watch.
