For the second straight PACWEST tournament rookie Wyatt Brook of the VIU Mariners claims a win, this time at Highland Pacific Golf Club in Victoria.
After shooting a 70 on Day 1, Brook found himself one stroke back of the leaders in the clubhouse. Both Ben Whiton (UFV) and Mike Flegel (Camosun) shot a 69. However Sunday Brook was lights out shooting a course low 66 and clinching his second tournament in as many weeks.
Day 1 leaders Whiton and Flegel were not off by much. Whiton finished second just one stroke back of Brook shooting a 68 on Sunday while Flegel finished third with a 71, four strokes back.
Despite back to back victories for Brook he’s still three strokes back of the overall PACWEST lead. That belongs to James Casorso of the UBC Okanagan Heat. The veteran shot a 70 & 71 this past weekend and has a cumulative score of 426 through the first three PACWEST tournaments. Whiton trails Casorso by just one stroke with 427, then Brook at 429. Last year’s champion Jacob Vanderpas is fifth with a 432 after shooting a 72 and 71 in Victoria.
On the women’s side Hannah Dirksen records her first win of the PACWEST season, making it three straight for the UFV Cascades. Dirksen shot a 78 on Saturday, three back of the leaders in the clubhouse. Then Sunday she caught fire and shot a 75 to clinch the title at Highland Pacific.
With her victory she is now eight strokes off the lead in the cumulative standings. She’s trailing teammates Emery Bardock and Maddie Kapchinsky who have collected scores of 471 and 478 respectively. Dirksen is sitting at 479 overall.
All three Cascades golfers have sat in the driver seat through the first three PACWEST tournaments and comfortably lead the team standings. They lead by 90 strokes over the UBC Okanagan Heat team.
The fourth and final PACWEST tournament opens this Saturday at Ledgeview Golf Club in Abbotsford and will be hosted by the Cascades.
